It’s Just that Simple

It seems that lately my conversations, reading materials, visual entertainment, etc. are all in conjunction with a particular theme…to embrace ALL the moments that make up this life.Too many times I get caught up in the goals and wants on my life, my mind focusing and obsessing almost to exclusion. Granted, my goals and desires shift and change in swirling kaleidoscope that sometimes it is hard for me to draw a straight line from point A to point B.But today, I want to revel in the simplicity of how amazing my life truly is.

This morning I woke to the sound of the pounding surf that I could view from my bed in the loft through the expansive windows.I kissed my incredible daughter on the forehead before heading out for an early morning stroll on the sand with one of my closest friends. We chatted about life and love and gratitude while admiring the beauty of the blue sky meeting the rolling waves.Upon our return, a gourmet breakfast was being prepared by other gracious members of the group. We chatted, laughed and sang along to Mmm Bop as we broke bread together, the warmth of the sun streaming through the windows high lighting the camaraderie. We toasted the birthday girl with our wishes for her over the next few years and delighted in her gift from another incredible friend of a slideshow in which we were all the stars. The love in the room for this remarkable woman was palpable and I once again found myself full of thankfulness to be part of her life.

The white sand and clear skies beckoned to us, so we ventured out to the beach for a pick up game of soccer.A few of us opted to cheer on the game and catch the wayward balls that went skimming across the sand with help from a very strong wind.I was so proud watching my daughter interact with the adults playing, and was again incredulous at how mature and happy she is…in that moment I know she will bring great joy to those in her life, as she does to me every day.We took a long walk on the beach, a couple of us even frolicking in the surf…brrrrrrrr!A great photo-op was had on a tree washed ashore, a perfect moment to capture a perfect day.

With the wind to our backs, we meandered back to the house. We warmed up with more coffee, a little lunch and conversations about Halloween costumes. Then it was time to pack up and head back home.Driving along 101, we experienced the awe inspiring views of the expansiveness of the Pacific Ocean, gazing out towards the horizon. The colors on the trees were the perfect golds and reds against the brilliantly blue sky.As we passed the creeks and rivers on Hwy 26, it was as if we were driving through an oil painting of the landscape. We talked of music, jobs and lifestyle to pass the time.

Then we were home…I dropped my daughter off, gave her a kiss and told her “I love you.”Now I’m at my house, I’ve showered, eaten dinner and watched a movie….I can honestly say today is amazing. All of these moments cherished…
